QEMU Windows Host Poor Performance

Post by mobr » Tue Feb 04, 2020 4:52 am

Hi
Looking for some help/ advice on building a QEMU Windows host on EVE-NG as every time I try, the performance is terrible. Even when starting installation, can tell there’s going to be an issue as much slower in comparison to installing on VMware workstation or Virtual Box

Followed instructions as per EVE-NG documentation [https://www.eve-ng.net/index.php/docume ... n-the-eve/]

Also tried options from Forum [https://www.eve-ng.net/forum/viewtopic. ... 02&p=23699]

Also tried installing Fedora Guest additions and Virtio WIN iso

SYSTEM & WINDOWS IMAGE
Image: Win10_1909_English_x64.iso [Given 4 CPU, 8GB RAM]
System: Issue is same whether using EVE-NG Pro on own laptop or EVE-NG Com on Google Cloud
Laptop: HP Zbook, Intel Quad Core, 48Gb RAM
Google Cloud: n1-highmem-8 (8 vCPUs, 52 GB memory), nested-ubuntu-xenial 100GB SSD

ISSUE:
Windows host is slow & unusable. CPU often maxed when no user processes running. All other QEMU images are fine (VIOS, InfoBlox etc), only have this issue with Windows host. Issue same whether using VNC, RDP via Native or HTML5.
What are best QEMU options to create an Windows image?

Thanks

Mo
