Your install is: Bare metal, ESXi, what CPU model, RAM, HD, what EVE version you have, output of the uname -a and any other info that might help us faster.

Hi,
Proxmox version: 5.1-46
VM configuration:
CPU: 1 socket, 12 cores
RAM: 16096 MB
Disk: 200 GB VirtIO Block
Network: VirtIO bridged (vlan tagged)
I can start the installer, configure the network, set time and hostname, but when I get to the partition section it fails with:
No root file system is defined.
Please correct this from the partioning menu.
I'm attempting to run the "VM" install option from the official installation ISO. Should I be using the "Bare" option instead?

Yep, I was using KVM, and the bare metal install worked.
Can I ask what the "VM" install is for?

Create a VM linux type in proxmox
add a disk , attache iso as cdrom
Install should work ( add nic able to reach internet as well ) ....
BTW: give enough CPU/RAM to EVE ( at least 4GB for small labs )
