I am dumping my prebuild text into the startup-config piece of EVE for my devices, like R1. After the paste and the save and then launching the device, the device starts in a normal out of the box setup format asking about initial configuration dialog.
What is the trick on getting this to work?
Start-up Configs feature/functionality

You have to watch video about it under Video section is all about how to use initial configurations

Re: Start-up Configs feature/functionality
I can't seem to make the startup config work for vMX images, I have tried with vmx-14.1R1.10 and 16.1R3.10 and the clock remains on the device indefinitely without any change to the config.
For other devices this feature works without problem only for Juniper it fails.
Do I need to use special image or settings?

Re: Start-up Configs feature/functionality
So the video is helpful but tells me there is NOT a way to make nodes use a startup-config that I have copied from a notepad on my windows desktop, paste it into the Startup config area for a node, click save and have it start to that config.
Also is method the same you would use to import configs from a lab that you want to use in a clone?

No, you can copy configs from notepad to startup place like I shown in vide when edited config.
But not of course target boot cfg from local PC.
Such option will come in Pro version of EVE.
For now only copy/paste from notepad to startup by hands sir

Re: Start-up Configs feature/functionality
I've been running into the same issue on the vMX 14.1
This happens during the boot up.
ln: /var/db/scripts/import: No such file or directory
Creating initial configuration...
mgd: error: Cannot open configuration file: /config/juniper.conf
mgd: warning: activating factory configuration
I don't think this works for the vMX
