AMD CPU Query

Post by sus_admin » Sat Mar 28, 2020 9:56 am

Hi

I am planning to build a monster eve-ng box for my work lab. I will need to simulate 40+ Juniper MX, some hosts etc.. I was thinking of 1TB RAM and an AMD EPYC 7452 CPU (that would yield 128 threads).. However, I see the eve-ng FAQ warns against AMD:

"AMD-V/RVI is “capable” processor but not officially supported. AMD CPU newest versions are supported but as Bare EVE install only. Not for ESXi or VM Ware workstation. AMD CPU Does not support newest Qemu version which are required for newest vendor images like Cisco CSRv1000 or Juniper vMX v19.x."

Is this true, even of the 'server class' AMD CPUs? Thanks

in next release of EVE, will be supported that AMD suer will be switched automatically to OLD Qemu templates.
I hope 80% of nodes will work..

Sorry mate but we are not guilty of AMD does not support newest Qemu versions

Thanks for the reply, it's not your fault 😂

It's a shame, AMD is starting to look so good aside from this
