How many is too many

Post by OD33 » Wed Nov 14, 2018 2:14 pm

As I try to do larger scale testing with EVE-NG , I run into problems that devices don't boot completely and/or the exported configs aren't on the device when it boots.
My best guess is that it has to do with how many devices I start at the same time.

The CSR1000v seems to be an absolute pig on boot up.

I'm curious how big the topologies are most people are working with.
I have a HUGE new server with 24 cores and 256GIG of memory.
I can't imagine it's a resource issue.

Any best practices on getting stuff started reliably would be appreciated also.

Thanks in advance.

First it is not huge server which you call with 24 virtual cores..
Stress boot cannot hold more that 3 CSRs at one time..
TIP: whatever server you have, to boot heavy lab the best will be boot 2-3 nodes at time, then wait till booted and start next portion.
Priority in the EVE:
1. best CPU with cores as more as better, for example I have Dual E5-2650v3 (40 vCPU/threads) my new seerver bare
2. fast HDD, SSD preffered, or SHDD less cost but speed is better than SATA
3. and only then is RAM. Your RAM will be useless if your CPU cannot hold cpus required for nodes..

At mass start of all nodes, your CPU spike enormously, that why I recommend do it calm, please...

TIP: count how many CSR you have? each CSR wants 1xCPU virt core, and as well DON'T start all at time.....

I have old server ESXi 6.0 with dual X5680 (24 threads) with 80RAM assigned for EVE VM, but I cannot start all at time
I do start 2-3 nodes, wait till they boots fully, then next portion..
Such way full INE topolgy works for me nicely

Please do not overestimate your server, it is not huge mate:)
Huge server is x4 E7-8855V4 (112 vCPU threads) with 2Gb RAM, and cluster of x8 1T SDD :) it is dream....

I should have clarified.
The server is running with 52 vCPU.
It has 100g NVME for storage.

But I get your point.
The CSR is killing me I think.

Thanks for the input.

All simple, DON NOT start CSR at once
and CSRs must be prepared right... Imgaes
