Slow network Performance

Post by i.sharkawi » Fri Jul 13, 2018 10:56 am

Hello All,

Kindly I'm facing unusual poor network performance within eve-ng network as the following:
I have bare metal server with 32 GB RAM and CPU Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 V2 @ 3.40GHz Nic card 1.0Gbps and EVE version 2.0.3-92 community.
I created a lab with Nexus9000v(nxisv9k-7.0.3.I7.27) QEMU Nic (vmxnet3) and connected to it one Windows 7 PC QEMU Nic (tpl(e1000)) and one ESXI 6,7 QEMU Nic(tpl(e1000)) . Also i did configure the jumbo frame on Nexus9Kv.

When i try to upload a file 300MB from win7 PC to local Datastore on ESXi it take one hour ...!!!!

I tried even to upload the file without jumbo frame config , its the same.

the jumbo frame configuration is :

switch(config)#policy-map type network-qos jumbo
switch(config-pmap-nq)#class type network-qos class-default
switch(config-pmap-c-nq)#mtu 9216
switch(config-pmap-c-nq)#exit
switch(config-pmap-nq)#exit
switch(config)#system qos
switch(config-sys-qos)#service-policy type network-qos jumbo

when i do connect the win 7 to ESXI without Nexus9Kv ,using Cloud0 Management interface , i have no problem at all , i can upload the same file 300MB in 5 Min.
any Idea please ...?

check your LAN antivirus and HDD speed...
Usually upload speed is forced by antivirus check or simple HDD slownwss
remeber images offered with demo lic from cisco has only 100Kb throughput !!
at least CSR and ASAv having such.. probably n9k has same limitation
It is not eve issue mate...

Thanks UD for your reply which really makes sense ,but is that includes (NXOS Titanium 7.1.0.3) ?, if yes , would you please recommend me which switch i have to use in this case to escape the limitation problem?

Many thanks

NX9K is not titanium... but limit on speed it can have due lic.

Titanium NX7K is most useless Nexus whatever seen, VIRL even terminated it from image list.
Titanium does not support 90% of all what is should ...:(
Iam using as switch IOL no limts, as well vIOS will be not bad

Hello UD,
I took your advise and I'm running now IOL and IOSvL2 but still have a problem ,like IOSvL2 Data plane throughput is only 1 Mbit , so i used IOL cisco image, the image data plane throughput is very good , but this image keep crashing from time to time .
I'm trying to build a LAB with 2 ESXI 6.5 servers and VCENTER 6.7 ,2 Switches, One Core Switch ,2 SRX FW and 2 Checkpoint FW.

IOSvL2: vios_l2-adventerprisek9-m.03.2017
IOU:i86bi-linux-l2-adventerprisek9-15.2d.bin

may you please help me ,,

Thanks in advance
