My ASA is not booting the startup-config file. I exported the startup-cfg and set the nodes to start from exported. I exported the lab and then re-imported but ASA boots with default startup prompting interactive setup but I don't even have a chance to enter no because it then continuously prompts me for Management IP address and even when I try to enter that it keeps prompting the same message. Is my ASA corrupted and do I need to reinstall?

Let me add to this. I tried with ASA version 9.1.5 and I am having the same issue. Only change I made before i started seeing this error was upgrading to from version 2.0.3-77 i think it was to version 2.0.3-80.

v83, n issues boot ASA 8.4.2 or 9.1.5 from exported config.
Just did tests ASA 8.4.2 and ASA 9.1.5

Both booting perfect from exported configs

Be sure you are using right sequence for exported cfg.
1. wr running cfg
2. export it
3. stop node
4. set node boot from exported
5. wipe node
6. start node

Clock symbol must appear beside node while it is booting from exported, only fully started clock symbol changes to Play (triangle)
Tips: check if your lab has have set Config Script Timeout* not less than 300.

even tested boot ASA 9.1.5 from ASA 8.4.2 saved cfg, all nice..
Tested exported and imported lab with cfg, same, no problems.

I hope it is not related to multicontext configs, those are not exportable simple way, because of context profiles saved on ASA.

I followed the steps below but still not booting up properly. The Config Script Timeout* is set to 300. I do see the triangle with clock when booting from exported but the ASA still prompts if want to 'Pre-configure Firewall now through interactive prompts [yes]?' but I don't even get a chance to select this option, it jumps down to prompt for Management IP address entry . When i try to enter IP address it prompts for network mask and then back to Management IP address and just continuously doing this. I will try to update to the latest version and see if this resolves. Is there step on how to upgrade from v80 to v83? I ran into issue with last update so want to make sure i have proper procedures.

I remembered the i got instructions from the Live HelpDesk so i followed the procedure to upgrade with no issues but the ASA is still doing the same thing. I will not boot from the exported. I would have to stop the node, wipe it and when it starts back up it prompts if want to go thru context setup.....

Update: One thing i didn't do was reboot the vm after upgrade because the steps said might not need to (be prompted for restart). So, I decided to reboot the eve-ng vm and that seems to have fixed the problem.

I test both version of the ASA by writing the cfg and even before i exported the cfg i simply restarted the ASAs to see if i got the save configuration which I did. (Don't remember if I mentioned restarting did started up with default as well). Once I saw the ASAs booted with save configurations, I followed your steps for export cfg and restarted the ASAs again and they started up properly.
