Thoughts on EVE-NG

Post by tambey64 » Tue Mar 15, 2022 10:53 am

Has anyone used EVE-NG before? I've seen a lot of good things about it and wanted the community's thoughts on it. It seems it's a close race between EVE-NG and GNS3 https://showbox.tools/ https://speedtest.vet/.

I personally think eve-NG is not that great. They have a lot of documentation, but its like a frag grenade. Its there, somewhere... might not be where you suspect or look, but its somewhere.... The second thing is, its extremely complex to use, not once you get used to it.... but again, getting into it you could spend days trying to figure out or find out what you're supposed to do.

A good example is how they setup ESXI for community, but in the same book it doesn't tell you, you have to enable SSL. Which makes sense, but its literally not even in the book during the install process. So, yes it tells you how to install it... but not really, cause you have to go find the remaining pieces somewhere else. To be exact that somewhere else is under a totally different page, under a How-To, and at the very bottom, even though you can't do a single thing without it.

Logically and organization wise it makes no sense. So, if you're super bored you have tons and tons of time to figure out where all the pieces of this grenade blew up then eve-NG is alright.

Even if the SSL enable part will be included EVE Community cookbook, it will not help you. If you cannot put couple of commands in EVE cli, then why EVE is gulty and bad here :)
Indeed EVE is for professionals.
Also for such like you who have no time, or simply won't read anything, EVE have Live chat, and any question will be answered or directed where, even remote help is provided.
